A Hole In the Ocean: Thomas Friedman Splits Hairs on Torture While Obama Holds Morton’s Fork

NY Times columnist Thomas Friedman endorsed Obama’s stand on torture today, calling it, “about as right as…” it can be.

If by torture we mean the sanctioned use of excruciating physical and psychological pain inflicted on a captive to extract actionable information about enemy plans to do harm to the lives of innocents, then I’m for prohibiting the sanctioning of its use (just like Obama).

Jerry, I think you may have misconstrued my recommendation. You seem to imply that I’m advocating some kind of “fee” structure for SP. I’m not. I happen to agree with Dave Snowden that it will be hard to get people to “pay” for something that they believe they can already get for free (and possibly “better” in so far as the content reflects their idiosyncratic preferences).
